Susan Termyn is a Representational painter based in New England. She is primarily recognized for her work in the “en plein air” tradition, which involves painting outdoors and directly from life to capture natural light, color and seasonal changes. She is most noted for her impressions of New England’s landscapes, seascapes, and the “human element”(people and local character). Her portfolio includes scenes of marshes, harbors, and rural farms. While she works extensively in oils, she is also an accomplished watercolor artist. As a naturalist and gardener, she aims to inspire viewers to appreciate and preserve natural open spaces through her art.
Susan Termyn is a well-established within the regional and traditional art communities, she has received several prestigious awards, including the Alden Bryan Memorial Award and Gold Medal for Outstanding Painting (2019) and the Marguerite Pearson Gold Medal for Outstanding Painting (2019) most recently the Chatpak/Grumbacher Award of Distinction “Excellence in Any Medium” from the North Shore Arts Association (2026)
She holds”Elected Artist Member” status in several prominent organizations, which is a mark of professional peer recognition: RockportArt Association & Museum (2016); North Shore Arts Association (2016); Lyme Art Association (2020)
Receiving a BFA/Editorial Design from Syracuse University, Termyn pursued an early career in Graphic Design and Art Direction in Minneapolis and NYC. After moving to the Boston area in 1997 she began painting.
